Bazar

With its multitiude of ethnic restaurants and trendy bars, De Pijp will leave you spoiled for choice. A good combination of great food and drink can be found at Bazar, with its Middle Eastern and North African menu served in a church that's been converted into an Oriental fairy tale. Nearby Mamouche offers French-inspired North-African dishes served in a modern setting.

Popular bars include the original Blackboard Canteen with its chalk drawings on the walls, Twentythird offering delicious cocktails and a great view from the top of the Okura Hotel, and the stylish College Hotel serving equally stylish cocktails.

Quirky shops

If you're looking for a bit of colour and kitch, visit Blond with its gaily painted dishware designed by two blonde ladies. Then if all those empty candy-coloured plates have put you in the mood for a tasty treat, drop in for a piece of cake at the playfully decorated cakeshop De Taart van m’n Tante (‘My Aunt’s Cake’).

Heineken Experience

Heineken Experience

Beer lovers won't want to miss a tour of the former Heineken brewery. The Heineken Experience recounts the history of the brand and shows visitors how beer was brewed in the past.

Architecture in De Pijp

Architecture enthusiasts can see some of the finest examples of Amsterdam Schoolstructures on and around P.L. Takstraat, with its complex of working-class flats known as Arbeiderspaleizen. These flats were designed in the early 20th century to provide housing for the labourers who worked in the nearby diamond industry and brewery.
