Spoil yourself and plan a relaxed day at the beach today! The Dutch coast is renowned for its wide beaches and vibrant beach cafés and restaurants in all shapes and sizes. Hip and trendy in Bloemendaal, lively and pleasant in Zandvoort. Stick a sun hat and a good book in your bag and relax…
No two days are the same on a Dutch beach. One day a brave sun and fresh wind will make your eyes water, the next you’ll be stretched out in the warm sand with your skin tingling in the sun. Even on a bright but breezy day the beach is more than worth the effort. On a terrace sheltered by a glass wall you can really enjoy the warmth and the view of the sea. If the wind is up then from a distance you’ll see the kites of the kitesurfers suspended in the air. Why not fly a kite yourself?
One of the most famous beaches is Zandvoort. The beach is nine kilometres long and an average of 80 metres wide. Together with the sea and dunes it forms a wonderful nature reserve where you can do watersports and relax. For a few years now the Blue Flag has been flying on Zandvoort, the symbol for a clean and safe beach. As the first European bathing resort, it also was also awarded the QualityCoast seal of approval because Zandvoort is devoting itself to sustainable tourism.
Bloemendaal is still one of those gems on the Dutch coast and especially popular with trendy sun-worshippers. The beach pavilions are furnished in a stylish and contemporary manner. Here people come to lounge, sip a cocktail and maybe hit the dancefloor in the evening. Are you more into peace and quiet? Head towards the north; there you’ll find a beach pavilion and nude sunbathing is permitted.
