Zandvoort has plenty to offer: a glorious area of natural beauty with a beach, sea and dunes, a bustling boulevard with shops and catering establishments, a small historic town centre, a motor racing circuit and beauty and wellness salons.
In 1829 the first bathhouse was put into use. This was the start of the development of a luxury bathing resort frequented by many people of renown. Even the Austrian Empress Sisi liked coming here. In order to alleviate her rheumatic symptoms, she visited Zandvoort in 1884 and 1885 for a number of weeks.
Where Sisi galloped along the coastline on horseback, you can now enjoy wonderful long walks and combine these with a walk along the boulevard. Some wandering around, people-watching, shopping and hopping from one terrace to another. For coffee and cake in one of the thirty beach cafés or for a full four-course dinner in one of the top restaurants. There’s plenty of choice in Zandvoort and something for everyone.
Although it is well-known for being a bathing resort, Zandvoort’s fame also stems from the racing circuit that was created in 1848. A legendary circuit where Formula 1 races were once held. In the summer there is something on nearly every weekend, with tens of thousands of fans, car enthusiasts and thrill-seekers descending upon the circuit each year. A little too much excitement for you? Then let yourself be pampered and spoilt in one of Zandvoort’s beauty centres. Opt for a peeling, sauna, massage or beauty treatment and feel like you’ve been reborn!
Zandvoort is how a bathing resort should be. With cafés, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, a large casino and a touch of allure! Naturally the resort is not without a bustling shopping area. During peak season the shops are open seven days a week from early in the morning until late evening. You’ll also be surprised by the small alleyways and old buildings in the centre, such as Zandvoort’s town hall (Raadhuis). A building from 1912 in Dutch Baroque style.
