Data science is a newer field within various industries—businesses from retail to service providers rely on interpretable and usable data to develop strategies and streamline processes to improve their overall business model.

Amsterdam Data Science

To capitalise on Amsterdam’s unique position as an educational centre and data powerhouse, the City has established Amsterdam Data Science (ADS), which supports various data science programmes at the University of Amsterdam, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences and the Analytics Academy.

Effective collaboration between these universities allows students to follow bachelor’s, master’s, PhD and postgraduate programmes in data science fields while taking advantage of the organisation’s facilities and network. Because of the partnerships between the universities and the ADS initiative, Amsterdam can offer one of the largest and most diverse offerings of data science education in Europe.

Networking and Startup Support

In addition to the degree programmes and university partnerships, ADS welcomes students into its vast network of top researchers and data science companies in Amsterdam. Students get instant access to seminars and exclusive events, as well as contacts—and potential employers—within international finance, healthcare and publishing companies.

Students have the opportunity to dive into data in the real world, and even get started on their own business with the support of the ACE Venture Lab.

Joint Programmes

Working with ADS, UvA and VU have collaborated with each other to offer specialised degree programmes for students who want to get the most of out their data science education.

The one-year Master’s of Information Studies with a specialisation in Data Science programme brings together the expertise of researchers and in-depth examination of data science tools and theories.
