In 1992 a Boeing 747 cargo aircraft crashed into two apartment buildings in the Bijlmermeer neighborhood in Amsterdam. The disaster affected several different communities, since victims included people from Ghana, Surinam and the Dutch Antilles. Music and poetry were important elements in the public and private memorials which took place in the days, weeks and years after the event. 25 years later, the Konrad Koselleck Big Band acknowledges the power of music in commemorating the Bijlmer disaster. For this memorial at the Bimhuis the band will collaborate with spoken word artists and musicians representing the various communities in the neighborhood.
