Official opening

The official opening of Red Light Jazz is on the Friday afternoon, June 7th, at 3pm at Casa Rosso, followed by a performance by Hans Dulfer. Red Light Jazz 2024 will end on Sunday evening 9 June with a performance by Candy Dulfer and her jazz band in the Grand Ballroom of Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky on Dam Square. 

Which artists will perform between the first and last concert during the 11 edition of Red Light Jazz can be found on the festival's website from 1 April. As soon as the entire programme for the new edition is known, you can find it here.

The old Amsterdam city center has had a jazz culture since the 1930s. American sailors used to bring jazz records with them when traveling and that is how Amsterdam was introduced to jazz. As far as Amsterdam and perhaps even the Netherlands are concerned, this now popular music style has its roots in the area around the Zeedijk and the Nieuwmarkt.

Every year since 2014, Red Light Jazz has brought the original atmosphere of the city center back to life for a short time during a weekend full of live jazz, where the concerts are largely free of charge.

Each edition of the festival includes many jazz musicians who have a strong connection with Amsterdam in terms of place of birth, place of residence, education or otherwise. Red Light Jazz also offers a stage to well-known and unknown national and international jazz acts and young talent.
