The illuminated boats show in Aalsmeer is a longstanding tradition. A couple of hundreds of boats make a tour through the waters of Aalsmeer, on and around the lake Westeinder Plassen. Anyone in possession of a boat and sufficient lights can join the event.
The yacht ‘Quo Vadis’ of the organization committee leads the procession of illuminated boats from the starting point at Topsvoort Bos on the so-called Kleine Poel, along many small islands, through the canal of the Haarlemmermeer polder on to the so-called Grote Poel of the lake Westeinder Plassen. It is here on the water that a magnificent firework will take place at 23.00 hours.

The exact route of the procession and the rules for participation can be found on

Spectators have the best view on the illuminated boats at the Aalsmeerderdijk. Between  20.30 and approximately  22.00 hours all boats will pass twice.

Admission tickets for Vuur en Licht op het Water are not required. The event is enabled by local sponsors and organized by a committee of volunteers.
