Hoofddorpplein

The Hoofdorpplein was built in 1926 by Joan Melchior van der Meij and Co Franswa, and is a exemplary case of Amsterdam School architecture.

Amsterdam School architecture in Amsterdam Zuid

One special aspect that is of note, is that Norwegian slate was used in the facade. The square received a tower designed by Van der Meij as an accent. This tower gave an exciting landmark to the square, but unfortunately it became demolished. Other elements remain and were restored, like the wrought iron and the elevated pillars.
