REM Eiland

At the REM Eiland Restaurant in Amsterdam you can dine extensively at a height of 22 meters above the water, in a former pirate radio and television station. The restaurant offers a beautiful view over the IJ, the Minervahaven and the new architecture of the Spaarndammerhout. You can go there for lunch and extensive three-course dinners.

Dining on REM Island

In the 1960s there was only one television channel in the Netherlands. Although there had been discussions about allowing commercial television since the 1950s, the Dutch government wanted nothing to do with it. The only option was to broadcast from the sea, which offshore channels like Veronica did for quite some time. A platform arose, which soon became known as the REM Island. This remained in operation until the port police closed the place. Since 2011, REM Eiland has been permanently located at a height of 22 meters above the Amsterdam harbor and offers a beautiful view.
