Marilyn Monroe passed away in 1962 and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of her death, composer Robin de Raaff teamed up with librettist Janine Brogt to write his second opera - a work devoted to the legendary film idol.

Behind Marilyn the star

Instead of being a literal depiction of her life and times, Waiting for Miss Monroe is split into three fictitious scenes that create a profile of an actress afflicted by fear who closed often retreated from the outside world.

Touching personal study

Directed by Lotte de Boer, Waiting for Miss Monroe shows how Monroe preferred to entrust her deepest thoughts to a tape recorder than a psychiatrist and delves into her whimsical behaviour on the film set and notorious performance during John F. Kennedy's birthday party. Adored by millions, Marilyn Monroe died at the young age of just 36.
