The Temporary Stedelijk at the Stedelijk Museum: Monumentalism

Milkmaids - Beeld: Lucia Nimcova

Temporarily open to the public

The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam's main museum of modern art, is still in the midst of a major renovation. While the new part of the building is set to arise bit by bit in the coming year, the restoration of the old part is approaching completion. On this occasion, the old part of the building is temporarily open to the public and offers a programme of exhibitions, educational activities and events.

A programme inspired by the uncompleted building

Director Ann Goldstein brings art, artists and audiences back into the museum with a programme that's inspired by the yet-uncompleted building. The museum halls, renovated by Benthem Crouwel Architects, are the backdrop for various contemporary art shows. One highlight of the programme is the exhibition 'Monumentalism ? History and National Identity in Contemporary Art'.
