It's July, the sun's shining and the summer party mood is sweeping Amsterdam. And it's time for the 35th edition the Kwakoe Summer Festival!
A cause for celebration
The Kwakoe Summer Festival rolls into town on 3 July for 6 consecutive weekends of festival fun. Its origins lie in celebrating the abolition of slavery in Suriname on 1 July 1863 and the name 'Kwakoe' comes from a statue erected to commemorate the momentous event.
Multicultural Blijmerpark
The Kwakoe Summer Festival is famed for its extensive mutli-culti programme featuring music, sport, gastronomic delights and dancing. The festival takes over the Bijlmerpark in Amsterdam Zuid-Oost with numerous stages catering for the entire family.
Something for everyone
The Main Stage and the Culture Stage are the centre of the action, with DJs, live music and dance workshops. The Children's Village caters especially for younger visitors and this year you can also visit the Beauty Lounge for a good dose of relaxation and pampering.
Football crazy
As the World Cup draws to an end, there's no need for football fans to despair! The 'beautiful game' is a key theme in the Kwakoe Summer Festival and you can even enter your team and battle it out on the pitch for the Kwakoe Trophy 2010.
