The European Wilderness

The European Wilderness - Image: Artis

Now is your last chance to catch the Amsterdam Artis Zoo's European Wilderness exhibition, which ran through 2010 as part of the International Year of Biodiversity.

Living in the wilderness

There are only a handful of people who call the wilderness home. Animals such as bears, wolves, lynx and bison roam freely, largely undisturbed by human presence. With no houses, roads or facilities, it's a tough place to survive. Such uninviting places include desert and mountainous areas, the rainforests, tundra, ice caps and the great swamps. The exhibition turns the spotlight on the European wilderness.
