The Queen's Night Concert at Amsterdam's Concertgebouw is renowned for bringing together classical music and pop and electro musicians. This year, English downbeat master Fink calls by for an evening of cross-genre fun.
RCO meets whizzkids
The Queen's Night Concert at Concertgebouw unites classical music with pop and electro musicians and is rapidly becoming a new tradition. In 2011, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra teamed up with Canadian indie-electro-classical whizzkid Patrik Watson for an evening of cross-genre fun (and sold-out success). This year, it's English Ninja Tune heroes Fink that'll take on the RCO's symphonic might.
Fink
Fink, consisting of the singer, songwriter, guitarist, producer and DJ Fin Greenall - also known as Fink by himself - Guy Whittaker (bass) and Tim Thornton (drums), first became widely-known for their 2006 release Biscuits for Breakfast. Since then, they have released three more albums, the most recent of them being 2011's Perfect Darkness.
Challenging boundaries
Tonight's performance with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will include arrangements by Jules Buckley and combine parts of the modern symphonic repertoire with songs by Fink, testing the boundaries of classical and pop music. Ivan Meylemans conducts.
