This major retrospective exhibition is inspired by the multifaceted oeuvre of acclaimed Dutch artist, Piet Ouborg (1893-1956) and today's renewed interest in his work. Ouborg's personal, pioneering work remains popular, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
Historical impetus
The Cobra Museum's motivation to honour Ouborg is strengthened by the connection between aspects of Ouborg's work and the artists who participated in Cobra and Vrij Beelden, two of the museum's historically important concerns.
Ouborg's oevre
The exhibition covers Ouborg's entire development in more than 60 paintings and drawings. The collection ranges from his earliest work in the Dutch East Indies, to material produced after he settled in the Netherlands in 1938. The exhibition focuses on Ouborg's mature work produced in the 1950s.
