Painting Outdoors: Myth and Reality

Charles-François Daubigny's The Beach at Villerville-sur-mer, from the collection held at the Museum Mesdag is the focus of the annual 'Atelierpraktijk' (Atelier customs) exhibition. This painting is considered a milestone for impressionism, as, according to Daubigny's 1874 biography, it was the first work to be completed entirely outdoors.
