Out of Denton Texas, Midlake are a five piece classic rock revivalist act who formed in 1999 with jazz school roots.
Bamnan and Slivercork
After beginning as jazz students from University of North Texas the group found themselves moving into sounds similar to Flaming Lips and Grandaddy, a lo-fi psychedelic art rock sound.
Earth-bound
However, they came to prominence on their second record, The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006) carving a unique sound reminiscent of 1970s west coast pop and being compared to bands like Crosby Stills & Nash, Neil Young, The Eagles, and Fleetwood Mac.
Classic rock
Their sound, a rolling classic rock style mixed with tales of life on the land was a breath of fresh air and would pave the way for other indie artists like Bon Ivor and recent Amsterdam visitors Fleet Foxes and Local Natives.
The courage of others
New album The Courage of Others is expected out early Feb, just in time to warm up your ears for their show at Paradiso on 10 February.
