Taeko is a middle-aged woman, who escapes the chaos of Tokio in search of inner peace. She hopes to find it on a paradise island south of Japan. Quiet it is in any case, because she is pension Hamada's only guest and even the first guest in years. There are remarkable house rules such as daily morning exercises on the beach, the local diet and the fact that everyone there wears a pair of glasses.
A Zen holiday
Although Taeko had pictured her relaxing holiday otherwise and she actually wanted to be left alone, she gradually grows into the local habits and the blissful slow life rhythm of the community. The subtle humor and the long-held shots with serene landscapes make seeing this movie a Zen pleasure.
