In the winter of 2011 - 2012, The Nieuwe Kerk and the Jewish Historical Museum in Amsterdam present an exhibition that tells the fascinating story of 3,000 years of Jewish religion, culture, art and history.
Chronicle of a world religion
With more than 500 objects on display, the exhibition chronicles a world religion that takes various forms all over the world, yet which has always held onto its identity. The exhibits are on loan from internationally renowned museums as well as private collections, and most of them are on display in the Netherlands for the first time.
Highlights
The highlights of the show include the first-century Dead Sea Scroll from the Israel Museum in Jerusalem; the oldest complete Torah scroll, originally from Erfurt and now at the Staatsbibliothek in Berlin; valuable manuscripts; a painting by Chagall from the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Alefbet Tapestry by the contemporary Russian-American artist Grisha Bruskin.
