Isaac Israels produced many drawings, sketches, watercolours, pastels and paintings of Amsterdam during the time that he spent in the city (1887-1905 and 1918). Houses, terraces, shops and other places at which Israels worked and which were his motifs have been identified in recent research, including the Noordermarkt, the Munt, the Carré theatre, the Oosterpark and the Dapperbuurt neighbourhood, which was newly built at the time.
The exhibition focuses on the topographical aspects and shows day-to-day life, busy street scenes, children playing, porters, dancehalls, theatres, cafés and the fair.
