Tropenmuseum - Culture Couture - Red Wood Nation Woman - Burning-Bush

Amsterdam's Tropenmuseum hosts a special exhibition that showcases fresh fashion designs by promising international designers who take their inspiration from cultures from all over the world.

New fashion talent

Fresh out of Antwerp's renowned academy of fine arts, these young, up-and-coming fashion designers showcase a selection of spectacular creations inspired by other cultures. The exhibition shows how authentic, traditional costumes from different cultures can inspire new, contemporary couture.

Traditional garb, modern interpretation

The three fashion students whose work is featured in the exhibition are: Manon Kündig from Switzerland, Tabitha Osler from the United States and Wali Mohammed Barrech from Bosnia Herzegovina. They have created a contemporary collection based on a specific costume from a culture of their choice. Each student's presentation features a replica of the traditional dress together with two contemporary designs inspired by it.
