Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Chicago, Andrew Bird learnt to play music via the Suzuki Method, a childhood musical education that taught kids to play music by ear and aimed to make them a well-rounded person, rather than a single-minded prodigy.
He builds musical textures via looping and layering, by guitar, violin and whistling into an indie-orchestra. Lyrically he is intelligent and intriguing, evocative and often cryptic beyond, well, words.
On Stage
Live Bird is fond of meandering off the musical path of his recorded works through improvisation inspired by the jazz greats but he's conscious of never getting lost in jam-band territory.
Noble Beast
His 2009 album Noble Beast he describes in organic terms; 'earthy, mossy, steaming and bubbling'. A continuation of his brilliant 2007 album Armchair Apocrypha it flows effortlessly through interesting melodies while always keeping a pop sensibility.
