Alfred Stevens


This exhibition at the Van Gogh Museum is the first retrospective of Belgian artist Alfred Stevens (1823-1906)in thirty years. Born in Brussels, by 21 Stevens had moved to Paris to work under the instruction of Camille Roqueplan, a friend of his father's. By the second half of the 19th century Stevens was one of the most famous artists in Paris in with regular exhibitions.

Style
He created a furore with his paintings of elegant, intriguing and elusive women. The artist painted the contemporary fashionable woman, with much attention to the beautiful expression of the clothing fabric and rich interiors.
