Foam in collaboration with the Moscow House of Photography presents a unique retrospective of the world-famous Russian avant-garde artist Alexander Rodchenko (1891-1956). The exhibition will contain over 200 vintage photographs, some of which have never been exhibited in the West before.
Russian avant-garde
The Russian avant-garde of the twentieth century is a unique phenomenon not only in Russia, but also in world culture, and Alexander Rodchenko was one of the main instigators of the era. He worked as a painter and graphic designer before turning to photomontage and photography.
A new way of seeing
Rodchenko's influence changed the ideas about the nature of photography and the role of the photographer with conceptual thinking being introduced into photography. Instead of just being the reflection of reality, photography also became a device for the visual representation of dynamic intellectual constructions.
