Amongst the festival atmosphere, the conference talks, the tweets and the tagging, I amsterdam headed to PICNIC 09 in the Westergasfabriek to ask the creative people of this city and visitors for the festival what it is that makes Amsterdam the creative capital of Europe.
On Thursday 24 September at PICNIC 09 the sun was shining, the grounds were busy and the chatter was thick, both in the air and the airwaves as like-minded people discussed the wonders of the new technological age in real space; in conference halls, PICNIC Labs and cafes, and in real time; on Twitter, Facebook and every other social media site.
I amsterdam, never wanting to miss out on the fun, went along to listen, talk and take part in activities about how creativity, technology and society can work together to make a better future. Watch us at work.
We crammed into the packed conference halls to heed some handy tips from Gerd Leonhard about whether Facebook was the new BBC, with his talk – The Future of Social Media.
We listened in on how people engage with their mobile phones from marketing strategies to helping the illiterate, before going Cool-Hunting with founder and editor of www.coolhunting.com, Josh Rubin.
And I amsterdam wasn’t left behind. In between talks we got chatting to some of our friends and strangers about what makes Amsterdam the creative capital of Europe.
We gave them large speech bubbles to write it on, we snapped a picture on our camera phones before sending it off to the world via I amsterdam’s Twitter and Facebook pages. Watch video.
