The large I amsterdam letters at the Museumplein, in front of the Rijksmuseum, have fast become an icon of the city and are a much sought after photo opportunity. They are a favourite for visitors to be photographed with, in, around and on top of.
'I amsterdam' began as the marketing campaign of the Amsterdam area, its business and promotional organisations but quickly broke free of motives or business intentions to become the collective catch-phrase of its citizens.
At more than 2 metres tall and when all lined up, the I Amsterdam letters measure over 23,5 metres wide. There is a second set of letters but where they'll pop up is anyone's guess - so keep your eyes pealed as you visit the city because they might be just around the corner.
Where to find them:
- Museumplein (continuous).
