In the new park that was given a sloping character, water plays an important role. There is an oblong shaped pond that joins several waterways, such as a pond near the Theaterplein and a stream with some small waterfalls. Other striking elements are the amphitheatre – a grassy slope with steps – and the woody Broadwayhill, that leads to two circular ponds in the old foundation of the gasholder.
Visitors can flaunt along the canal promenade next to the Haarlemmervaart or enjoy the sun on the stairs along the border. A total of 1.100 new trees were planted in the park. The park was designed by American landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson, who is known, among others, for the Parc de la Villette in Paris and the design of the monument for Lady Diana.
