In 1898 Cafe de Kroon opened its door at the Rembrandtsquare in Amsterdam. The name of this cafe was derived from the crowning of the new queen of The Netherlands, queen Wilhelmina right here in Amsterdam in that same year. In 1986 the twin brothers Dick and Ton Poppes opened the doors of “ The Escape”. This succesful and at that time largest discotheque of Amsterdam is next door to “De Kroon” and belongs to the real-estate of Caransa. At the end of the eighties this same Caransa notified the twin brothers of the space formerly known as “De Kroon”. After developping a businessplan the new “Cafe de Kroon” opened its doors in 1990. The old grandeur was re-established. The antique decorations, Louis XVI furniture, combined with for example an English library bar give a whole distinct atmosphere and determine the specific character of “De Kroon”.
