The birthplace of world-famous writer, Eduard Douwes-Dekker (1829-1887), better known as Multatuli (1829 -1887), serves as the Multatuli museum in Amsterdam. The museum also houses a study centre and an exhibition on the life and work of this writer.
On display
The Multatuli museum's mission is to organize exhibitions that throw more light on the life of the author and on aspects of his work. On display are Multatuli's writing desk, his library, the chaise longue in which he died, and books and pictures from the rich museum collection.
More activities
Through the exhibition, the visitor is also given an impression of life in the second half of the 19th century. Other activities of the Multatuli Museum include collecting, conserving and making available books and other printed material to promote and stimulate the study of Multatuli.
