Commemorations begin at 6:10 pm with a silent march from the Museumplein to the Dam. At 6:55 pm there will be a service held in the Nieuwe Kerk for survivors of the Second World War and their families.
Events also include the laying of a wreath by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, two minutes of silence at 8:00 pm and speeches. Five wreathes will be laid in remembrance of the many civilians and military personnel who died both in Europe and in Asia during WWII. The ceremony will conclude with a march along the National Monument.
