Devotees immediately notice if someone is wearing a pair of shoes by designer Jan Jansen. The form, lineation, materials and finish harmonise beautifully, yet there is a sense of suspense, a slight twist, an unexpected texture to the material which reveal the touch of a true designer.
Jan Jansen has been selling shoes under his own name since 1964. They include masterly designs like the 1969 clog, the bamboo shoe of 1973 and the floating wedge of 1989. Comfortable bootees with folkloric elements and supple, colourful lace-ups with inside wedges gradually made way for gorgeous pump with high heels and ankle features.
Men are also catered for. Jan Jansen has, for instance, created his own interpretation of a traditional design like the brogue, using unexpected combinations of materials and colours.
