On the exact spot where Artis Royal Zoo was established in 1838 there is a very special meeting place this winter: for the first time in the long history of Artis Royal Zoo there will be an ice rink! From the 12th of December till the 14th of March visitors can freely taste real Dutch winter, in a unique setting amongst the animals. Ice skates are available and free of charge for all visitors to Artis Royal Zoo.
Besides the ice rink, Artis offers an oasis of peace in the bustling centre of Amsterdam with historic buildings and monuments. Featuring the Big Bang in the Planetarium, dinosaurs in the Geological museum, an African Savannah, an Insectarium, an impressive 70-metre long aviary for birds of prey, a magnificent 125-years-old Aquarium with the Amsterdam canal shown, a Butterfly pavilion … and thousands of animals!
Artis Royal Zoo, including the ice rink, is daily opened from 9.00 to 17.00 hours.
