Greenbox Museum

Korte Leidsedwarsstraat 12
1017 RC AMSTERDAM
Neighbourhood: Leidseplein

Greenbox Museum of Contemporary Art from Saudi Arabia is a private collection which can be visited at Amsterdam's Leidseplein. The museum shows work by the avant garde of Saudi Arabia, an important country for Muslims as it is home to Mecca. The museum is the first in the world for art from Saudi Arabia.

Inspired artists
Greenbox Museum is the size and ambition of a cabinet of curiosities with Saudia Arabia the uniting element. Despite its special relationship with Islam, Saudi Arabia can also be seen as a country like others with ideas and traditions particular to the land and its regions, which find their way into the mind and work of artists.

Green cube
Greenbox Museum takes its name from a wish not to be another white cube space. The green is only in the name and is a reference to the colours of Saudi Arabia. On the basis of its research the museum publishes on internet a dictionary of Saudi Arabian artists.
