An Institution
De Bijenkorf is so much more than just a retail outlet. It is a Dutch institution which has been setting the trend and inspiring people for decades. At de Bijenkorf you can find both top international brands and the company’s own brands of clothing, cosmetics, accessories, home-ware, gifts, toys, media and travel services. If all that choice leaves you dazzled, there is also a personal shopper service. The store is open seven days a week and of course offers Tax Free Shopping to international visitors.
Rich History
Dating back to 1870, de Bijenkorf has a rich 140 year history. It originally sold buttons and sewing supplies in the Nieuwendijk street. During renovations in 1912, the store temporarily was moved to Dam square – where business boomed so much that it hasn’t moved from the square since. De Bijenkorf’s present building, designed by architect J.A van Straaten, was declared a national monument in 2001. During Nazi occupation, de Bijenkorf had to be handed over to non-Jewish proprietors for the duration of the war.
