For decades, Amsterdam has been known as the gay capital. The city's famous liberal attitude offers a welcoming and safe environment for gays, lesbians and transgenders. Amsterdam Gay Pride celebrates the rights of the gay, lesbian and transgender communities in an open and carnival atmosphere with a rainbow-coloured programme of parties, films, exhibitions, debates, weddings and of course the big canal parade.

Amsterdam Gay Pride is one of the best celebrations of its kind around the globe. Held in the first weekend of August, the festival draws over 350,000 gay and straight visitors every year. The canal parade is undoubtedly the highlight of the festival – the floats and costumes are sometimes outrageous, often funny and always spectacular!
