Strategy and Goals

Amsterdam is the beating heart of a tourism industry worth over € 5,5 billion. The city is among the top 10 most visited destinations in Europe.

Common Goal

The Amsterdam Tourism & Convention Board (ATCB) closely collaborates with the local corporate, cultural and government communities to achieve a common goal: attracting the maximum number of annual visitors to create a strong economical foundation in the Amsterdam region.

Between 2003 and 2007, the number of overnight stays in Amsterdam increased more than 16 percent to 8,8 million; related spending increased 35 percent to reach € 5,5 billion. Employment levels rose 24 percent to 48,000 tourism-related jobs.

Amsterdam Metropolitan Area

The future marketing efforts of the ATCB and our partners will focus primarily on Germany, Great Britain and Belgium, all nearby countries with a high volume of potential visitors. An increase in visitors from these countries could potentially soften the effects of the economic crisis on Amsterdam and the region, and start a new cycle of growth.

This strategy begins by expanding our efforts to promote the entire Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, which roughly comprises the Zandvoort, Zaanstreek, Almere and 't Gooi regions.
