The village of Ruigoord was squatted by a group of artists in the 1970s and has since then been a blossoming artistic community. Several of the industrial buildings in this area have taken on a cultural function, including studios, workshops and exhibition spaces. A variety of cultural events take place in the village church and large barn including spoken word and music evenings, a Poetry Festival, the Landjuweel outdoor festival and exhibitions.
