Restored to former glory
Built in 1935, the Pathé City Theater cinema is not only steeped in tradition but also one of the city's architectural highlights. The original building was designed by Jan Wils, the architect who also conceived Amsterdam's Olympic Stadium. The building was closed for renovation back in 2007 but once again throws open its doors to the film-hungry public on 2 December 2010.
Entertainment for the modern age
Located amidst the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam's Leidseplein, the building has been drawing the crowds for premieres since the 1930s. Thanks to the recently completed facelift, it is now set to become an entertainment complex for the modern age. The Pathé City is certainly not run-of-the-mill and the programming is set to be decidedly arthouse. In addition to the seven screens of the cinema itself, the building houses a welcoming lounge, the Little Buddha sushi bar and even a casino. The perfect plan for a rainy day!
