Extract from the Municipal Personal Records Database
An extract from the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) is a statement from the municipality containing your personal details as recorded in the municipal records. It is important to register in the municipal personal records database when you come to the Netherlands,.
If you are a highly skilled migrant (kennismigrant) your employer will arrange this for you, but otherwise you need to do this yourself.
Copy from the Department of Civil Affairs
Municipal records from the Civil Registry contain data relating to important events, such as birth, marriage and death. Certificates are drawn up of these events. If you need a copy or extract of a certificate in your country of origin, for example if you have married or had a child in the Netherlands, the copy will contain all the particulars listed on the certificate. The extract contains only a selection of them.
Where to apply for a copy or extract
Apply for a copy or extract of a certificate from the Department of Civil Affairs in the Amsterdam District office in which the event in question took place. If the event took place recently, you can obtain a copy or extract (Afschrift Burgerlijke Stand) at the corresponding District Council office. If it took place later, you can obtain a copy or extract from the Department of Civil Affairs.
If you require further information, call the city information number 14 020 (Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 18:00).
