English-speaking Amsterdammers have a handy number to call with their questions related to civic issues, as the 14 020 service, the City of Amsterdam's central information helpline, now has operators on hand to answer questions in English.

The City of Amsterdam has a central information number, 14 020. The idea behind the service is to provide a single point for all Amsterdam residents and businesses to get information from the municipality as well as to register complaints. 14 020, part of the digital service Loket Amsterdam, is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. The number is now also available to English speakers – simply select English from the automated menu at the start of your call.

Why call 14 020?

The aim of the service is to provide the most accurate municipal information for citizens of Amsterdam. In a matter of moments you can learn the answer to your connection, or be quickly connected to another expert who can help. Frequently asked questions for topics such as construction, marriage ceremonies, parking tariffs, taxes and other civic matters will be answered directly. For specialist topics, staff can transfer callers to the relevant department.

WhatsApp the City of Amsterdam

The City of Amsterdam has also added Whatsapp to its means of communication. Residents who use the WhatsApp mobile or desktop app can contact the municipality by sending a message to 06 4444 0655. An employee of the City will reply at the earliest possible moment between 08:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Friday. Please note, Amsterdammers making use of this service are requested not to send sensitive data as part of their question. If further information is required, the representative will inform you of the next steps to take.
