Civic Integration Course (Inburgeringscursus)

The inburgeringscursus

Living - Official Matters - Civic Integration

Foreigners living in the Netherlands may have to undergo certain civic integration requirements and courses (inburgeringscursus). There are currently two scenarios where integration courses and exams may be required, they are:

  1. Before coming to the Netherlands: There are certain civic integration entry-requirements as part of the MVV procedure. This is referred to as Basic Civic Integration.

  2. While living in the Netherlands: Since January 2007 the Civic Integration Act obliges most non-Dutch and non-EU nationals living in the Netherlands to speak Dutch and have some general knowledge of the country. This is referred to as Municipal Civic Integration.
