Below you'll find all you need to know about refuse collection in the Noord District of Amsterdam.
Bagged refuse can be deposited at specially designed street-side containers that crush waste underground to a quarter of its original size. You will require an access card (huisvuilpas) to open the container lids.
Apply for your access card online (in Dutch) or in person at the district office at Papaverweg 33 or Buikslotermeerplein 200. The pass opens all containers, so if the container on your street is full, try another one in the area.
If you are throwing away items that are still in reasonable condition, contact De Lokatie thrift store to check if they are interested in taking the items off your hands. Either email or call +31 (0)20 463 1115.
If there is no further use for your items, take them to the collection point at Papaverweg 33 (Struisgrasstraat entrance). If your car is too small to transport your refuse, you can borrow a trailer from the Papaverweg collection point. Call +31 (0)20 637 07 12 to arrange borrowing a trailer.
If you are not able to take your bulky refuse to a collection point, you will have to wait for it to be collected. Since 1 September 2010, bulky refuse will only be collected once a month in Amsterdam Noord. Use the postcode search (in Dutch) to check when bulky refuse will be collected in your district.
Minor chemical waste can also be taken to the Papaverweg collection point.
Glass and paper suitable for recycling can be deposited in the street-side containers. These are clearly marked and can also be opened using an access card.
