Below you'll find all you need to know about refuse collection in the Centre District of Amsterdam.
Bagged refuse can be put out on the street in grey refuse bags twice a week, on designated days. It is collected by the municipal refuse service (gemeentelijke Afvaldienst). Only put refuse out on the designated collection days at 06:00 at the earliest. It will be collected between 07:30 and 15:30 on the same day.
Either take bulky refuse to a collection point or telephone +31 (0)20 551 9555 to register it for free collection. Once you have arranged collection, put items on the pavement on the designated day ensuring the collection services can easily access the refuse. Waste from construction and demolition works needs to be put out for collection in a special ‘Big Bag’, available at your local DIY store.
Minor chemical waste can be brought to the chemical collection truck (chemokar) which is at fixed locations on Thursdays and at the Jodenbreestraat on Saturdays. You can also take your minor chemical waste to a collection point.
A number of neighbourhoods in the Centre district of Amsterdam recently launched a plastic recycling programme. Glass and paper can be deposited for recycling in the dark green or grey containers which collect the waste underground.
