Amsterdam foodies are in luck again as the city celebrates its culinary diversity 29 September to 7 October 2012, with the return of the Week of Taste (Week van de Smaak). With an all-you-can-taste, multi-cultural buffet, indulge yourself at one of the many food stalls, demos, workshops, and other food-related events. Complete details of the 2012 will be announced closer to the festival.
With numerous mouth-watering events taking place all around the country, here are a few of the Amsterdam based highlights:
On 5 October between 14:00- 21:00 an organic famer's market will be held on the Haarlemmerplein. You will have the chance to sample all the wares on offer - for free! This market is strictly organic and highlights the range of available produce in the Amsterdam area. And of course, you can purchase all of the items you taste right there at the market.
A must-see in the 2011 Amsterdam Week of Taste is the Market of 1001 Flavours on 9 October. Located in the Food Center Amsterdam, more than a hundred market stalls will be packed to bursting point. The Food Center Amsterdam is the most famous and most important wholesale market for fresh products in the Netherlands, so it's a great opportunity to peek behind the doors. As well as all the great food on offer, there will be entertainment for the whole family.
Also on 9 October, the Taste of North event will take place in the Noorderparkkamer (in Noorderpark) between 12:00 and 17:00. With a 'strip-card' system in place this event is great for families interested in tastings and culinary activities suitable for children.
For the first time at the Week of Taste, Amsterdam's south east district gets involved with an Underground Food Court/Street Food event. Every day of the Week of Taste between 10:00 - 21:00 at Frankemaheerd this event is specialising in street food and street food concepts. This one is all about great tasting street food at an affordable price.
Information about the 2012 programme will be announced on the website Week van de Smaak (In Dutch only) .
