Dutch Labour Party (PvdA) received most votes in Amsterdam

Former Mayor Job Cohen at the helm

PvdA party leader Job Cohen had been mayor of Amsterdam for several years, until he resigned to pursue national politics in March 2010. According to the Dienst Onderzoek en Statistiek (Department for Research and Statistics), the Labour Party received 35.2% of the votes in Amsterdam. In the last elections, held in 2006, the PvdA had 30.1% of the votes in the city.

In second place is the centre-right Liberal Party, the VVD. The party received 16.8% of the votes in Amsterdam. This is a 3% increase from the 2006 elections.

The Socialist Party (SP), who were in second place during the last elections, had the biggest loss. They fell from 18.5% in 2006 to 7.4% now.

The Christian Democrats (CDA) also lost out in the 2010 elections with just 3.3% of the votes, compared to 9.6% four years ago.

The D66 liberal party more than doubled in popularity; jumping from 4.5% to 11.8%.
