The Royal Honours of the City of Amsterdam were given out on Koningennenacht (Queen's Night) Thursday 29 April, in a ceremony at the Beurs van Berlage, awarded by interim Mayor Asscher.
On Queen's Night, Thursday 29 April, 62 individuals (39 men, 23 women) were presented with the Royal Honours for the City of Amsterdam at the Beurs van Berlage by Mayor Asscher on behalf of Queen Beatrix.
The honours acknowledge those people who have shown significant contribution and dedication to and/or achievement within Dutch society and are awarded the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
Some high profile names were honoured in this year's lintjesregen, or Rain of Titles - the unofficial name for the occasion - such as TV presenter Albert Verlinde, chairman of Amnesty International Kees Bleichrodt, and business woman Sylvia Toth. However, most honoured were lesser known, but no less important members of the community.
Mrs Coenen, who has taught Dutch at the Montessori College Oost since 1979, said "It is an enormous honour, both for me personally but also for all school teachers who do their absolute best to go beyond just teaching their students the intricacies of Dutch grammar. This honour is for me, for my colleagues and last, but certainly not least, my students."
Many of those honoured were volunteer workers, reports news agency ANP, including the youngest recipient, aged 35. Eight people were honoured with the Order of the Dutch Lion. Click through for a full list of those honoured with the Rain of Titles (Dutch).
