The City of Amsterdam offices (including Civil Affairs) are closed on all major public holidays including Good Friday, Easter Monday and Liberation Day (5 May). Household waste will also be picked up on alternative days in some districts of the city over the Easter period.
If your household waste or bulky refuse is usually picked up on a Friday or Monday, it is likely that it will picked up on an alternative day over the Easter period.
Street parking is free throughout most of Amsterdam on public holidays. However, this is only the case in the Centre District of Amsterdam on Queen’s Day - on other public holidays, payment is required between midday and midnight (as on a Sunday).
In 2012, these alternative parking regulations apply on the following public holidays:
Easter Monday (9 April)
Queen’s Day (30 April)
Liberation Day (5 May)
Ascension Day (17 May)
Whit Monday (28 May)
Christmas Day (25 December)
Boxing Day (26 December)
Amsterdam's district offices and services will be closed on the following days:
Friday 6 April: Good Friday
Monday 9 April: Easter Monday
Monday 30 April: Queen's Day
Tuesday 1 May: May Day / Labour Day
Thursday 17 May: Ascension Day
Monday 28 May: Whit Monday
