BadBuiten (literally, pool outside) came to Amsterdam last year, the first of its kind in the Netherlands. In true Amsterdam spirit, it's not just a pool - it's a floating pool.
The swimming pool is moored on the Korte Ouderkerkerdijk in Amsterdam, where it will stay until mid-September. In April, May and September, BadBuiten is open daily from 12:00 to 18:00 and in June, July and August the floating swimming fun doesn’t stop until 23:00.
The floating pool, which measures 18 by 5 metres, is made up of two large sections. One is the swimming pool and the other an area comprising changing rooms, showers and lavatories. Roughly forty swimmers can use the pool at one time. Children can swim for 2.50 euros and it costs adults 4 euros to take a dip.
A host of sporting and cultural activities are planned throughout the season, including daily swimming lessons at midday. And if you don’t fancy getting wet, you can always enjoy a drink and a bite to eat on the BadBuiten terrace. There is no entrance charge for the terrace or bar, no matter whether you have a swim or not.
Check the BadBuiten website (Dutch) for more information and full programme of activities.
