Open-air institution
After 23 successful years, the Sunsets Film Festival has become a true open-air institution in Amsterdam. The backdrop of the Vondelpark, complete with creeping shadows and a cool summer breeze, provides the perfect setting to sit back and enjoy film classics on a giant screen. This is the last year that Sunsets will take place in the Vondelpark before EYE moves to its new home in Amsterdam Noord.
Silver screen summer
For two months, film classics are screened every Friday night. And as the screenings take place on the Vondelpark pavilion terrace and are a collaboration of the EYE Film Institute with café/restaurant Vertigo, this ultimate summer evening experience even comes with a cold drink in hand.
The lowdown
This year, the wildly varied programme ranges from Easy Rider (ol' Jack's classic role as coke-addled lawyer here tying in with EYE Film's Jack Nicholson retrospective) through indie classics such as Bienvenue chez Les Ch'tis to faves throughout the decades - think 1945's Brief Encounter and 80s vampire flick Lost Boys.
