Running across three days from 14 to 16 September 2011, PICNIC is a cross-discipline platform enabling creative dialogue, networks and collaboration between today's top minds in the fields of media, technology and eco and social solutions.
Returning for its sixth edition, PICNIC moves to a new location this year - the NDSM Wharf in Amsterdam Noord. The event is renowned for its innovative festival approach which combines cutting-edge content with original, interactive programme formats.
As well as keynote speakers in specific topic areas, there are hands-on workshops, labs, competitions, challenges, social games and professional matchmaking events.
It's all about sharing ideas and above all, getting involved and crossing boundaries. The laid-back festival atmosphere means that visitors from all walks of life interact - speakers guide students, designers meet business developers and hackers collaborate with artists.
The theme of this year's PICNIC event is 'Urban Futures', which focuses on the impact of global urbanisation on cities, societies and the lives of individuals alongside examining the role creative technology can play in such urban futures.
Creative, innovative souls are invited to share their thoughts on numerous urban future scenarios, including perspectives on infrastructure, sustainability, society, design and media.
Speaking at this year's conference is a wealth of knowledge and expertise in new media, technology and creativity. Here are just a few of the speakers already announced for this year:
One highlight of PICNIC is the Postcode Lottery Green Challenge - an international competition for the most innovative product or service idea to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The winning entry scores 500,000 euros to help finance their idea and expert coaching to help bring their idea to market. Finalists will present their ideas live at the PICNIC festival.
